Alambadi Breed

              One of the rare breed, found inTamil Nadu.                Breed in the hilly forest areas of the upper Kaveri basin Mettur (Salem dt.) Pennagaram, Dharmapuri (both in Dharmapuri dt.) Kollegal, Bangalore rural (both in Karnataka state). Trotting variety known for endurance. Breed by Kongu Vellalas, Lingayats, Vanniyars and Vokkaligas of the region.They are the nearest cousin to hallikar Breed of Karnataka .                      The male stock is generally sold as yearlings at big fairs to ryots who rear and sell them as work cattle. They are very active and hardy animals   is very useful in ploughing  and can live on scanty rations. They are in good demand for cart and should be regarded as purely a draught breed.Cows of this breeds are poor milk yielders.                    Alambadi cattle can withstand all climatic conditions.
